BaZ
Hi Scarfaze, long time no speak! Is this your only tank or do you have others currently established? The easiest way is to use a filter from an established tank, and also use as much established water as you can (do a water change on your other tanks and dump the old water in your new tank). As for the chemical way I cannot help you sorry, I do all mine the way I have already described
seecuta
I put the new filter in an old/established tank and let it run for a while. after that, like baz said dump as much old water in the new tank as possible and move the now matured filter to that tank. Lepperfish
Or if you dont have an established tank. You can cycle it with some inexpensive fish for a month or so.. Just keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrate levels..
novafishy
You can cycle it with some inexpensive fish for a month or so.. Goldfish works for me! Guppies are also a very common option.
Lepperfish
I just setup my new 4 foot tank tonight. Im going to cycle it with mbuna.. Going to add 4 fish per week as I did my 4x2x2.. Worked fine for me..
