jebe
Is 12 foot the standard length of glass before its cut down? Is this as big as you can go with out importing longer glass? cheers justin i should know this
Ash
I was told by a tank maker that 8x4' sheets are the standard size, which would make the 10 & 12' ones special orders? Could just be a hicksville thing though?
steve24cro
im pretty sure you can get 12 foot lengths of glass here, dont think its a special order

taksan
18/20 and 24 ft are also standard orders in 25/32 and 40/50mm which is what you would be talking about for those sized tanks.

Parramatta Aquarium
The standard 10mm sheet I buy in 10mm is 3660x2440 (12x8). The thicker the glass the bigger the sheet. Craig.
Wayne
hi all the biggest sheets we can get here in oz is 5100x2400 i think all the way upto 25mm thick,so big tanks r possible hth cheers wayne
ndoboi
Wayne, wouldn't a tank that size be better done in acrylic?? Just curious to learn as we seem a lot more adverse to acrylic than overseas. So much light will be lost with 25mm of glass. I'll go back to dreaming of my super tank now, Steve
Ash
It might be that higher grade "starfire?" or whatever glass that is much clearer than the usual green tinged stuff?
wui39
It might be that higher grade "starfire?" or whatever glass that is much clearer than the usual green tinged stuff? ← Also so much more expensive!!!!! I just think Acrylic has a bad reputation here in Aus, so less people want it and therefore less people make them and therefore less people want it again! huzzy
My only fear with acrylic is a single grain of coral sand getting caught between my magnetic cleaner and the front panel. Think etch-a-sketch.
Ash
you can wreck glass like that easily enough too, believe me!
