YeW
I've been compiling this list of cichlid genera. I think I've got most of them . I wasnt sure whether anyone else could use this - so I've posted it here (just in case). I used fishbase.org as my reference for valid genera and for the authorities. If I've missed any - please let me know. Excuse the "'s they dont work on the forum. wui39
Great list although I have a few that seem to be different from a book I have. I will have to check.

YeW
Hi Worm - Xystichromis phytophagus is apparently a junior synonym of Haplochromis phytophagus.
Paulochromis
What are "Telmatocranus"? ← I thought the poor man's frontosa was a telmato-something so having recently seen the aulonocranus reference decided to google telmatocranus, and something showed up. However, I think it was on a German language site (www.aquarium-bbs.de/fisch/barsche/ci-t.htm). I seem to recall some discussion regarding peacocks and their "flute-like" highly developed lateral line system, and how cichlids in both Lakes Malawi & Tanganyika had evolved similarly. The discussion covered the use of common prefixes and suffixes in the scientific names for the fish, hence aulono-cara (M) and cranus (T), and telmato-cranus (T) and telmato-chromis (T). YeW
I think (Im not a Malawi expert by any stretch) that the genus in question is Trematocranus. David.
