jamie2548
Hi Everyone. My local electricity company is turning the electricity off tomorrow and thursday between 8 am and 3 pm!!!! I have a battery pump to keep aeration and I think they will handle a bit of a temp drop but Im worried about the bacteria in the canister! Will it die? Can I do anything to prevent this from being a problem when it comes back on and fills the tank with dead bacteria?!! DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO !! 4 ft tank 15 fish. Thanks . mcloughlin2
The bacteria die because of lack of oxygen. Put a airstone in the cannister and it may help, and get a hold of some bottled bacteria to kick start the filter when it goes back on. Make sure you clean it in tank water before turning it on and don't keep putting hot water in the tank.
